After almost guiding the Reds to a
first Premier League title, Gerrard has endured a difficult few months.
He captained England through their miserable World Cup campaign in
Brazil and has been unable to halt Liverpool’s regression this season.
Gerrard,
who scored two penalties in Liverpool's 2-2 draw against Leicester, has
been free to talk to foreign clubs from January 1. He was offered a new
deal with the Anfield club in November.
He
joined Liverpool as an eight-year-old and has made 695 appearances and
scored 180 goals, winning 11 trophies. He made his first team debut in
1998 and was made captain in 2003.
His
Liverpool highlights include a pivotal role in the 2005 Champions
League triumph over AC Milan as the Premier League side roused
themselves to overturn a 3-0 half-time deficit via a penalty shootout,
and a wonderful long-distance goal in injury time during the 2006 FA Cup
final against West Ham.
